Solidarity for a worthy cause

I think most of you should be aware of the brewing controversy already about this open letter by Otto Fong, a science teacher in RI. I hope the RI guys in our class can, especially if you were once his student, lend him support by sending him an encouragment letter (you can ask me privately for his email, I don't think I should post it here). Alternatively, and even better, do email your headmaster (headmaster@ri.sch.edu.sg) to tell him there is absolutely no reason why this teacher should be removed. (just in case!)

I have sent Otto an email explaining that Christianity and homosexuality are not necessarily exclusive and that there is actually a substantial, though small, number of heterosexual Christians fighting against homophobic prejudice in our society today. I felt heartened when he replied to thank me for sharing with him "the true essence of Christianity".

Coincidentally, I attended a talk today on societal attitudes towards gays and lesbians throughout the world. A World Bank report showed that out of 54 "high income" countries in the world, only 7 criminalise same-sex sexual activity. The first 6 are Bahrain, Brunei, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and UAE. You guess the seventh. :) It really is time to change things around here, no?

Oh yes, Joseph, this was the site I was telling you about:

Cheers.
